2018 Summer Bees

Join Us in Whispering Woods and the Centennial Natureground!

If you live, work, attend school, play, shop, volunteer, or visit in Brentwood – or would like to – please join us this summer for another season of social stewardship through biodiversity conservation in the Centennial Natureground and Whispering Woods – tucked away in the NW corner of Brentwood. All are WELCOME.

We will be meeting on Tuesdays, from the week of the Solstice through the week of Labour Day, alternating mornings and evenings, although the first one is in the afternoon, and the final one starts an hour earlier. We’ll also celebrate at the beginning and end of the season with POTLUCKS:

  1. JUNE 19, 3-5 p.m.: AFTERNOON Kickoff & Mentoring Session – Potluck Snacks
  2. SEPTEMBER 4, 5-7 p.m.; 7 p.m. Onwards: Windup Bee & Celebration – Potluck Snacks/Supper and BYOB

Calgarians have repeatedly demonstrated delight in getting to know their neighbours through shared activities of all sorts. You are heartily encouraged to enjoy such camaraderie by joining these fun and festive Community Biodiversity Bees. We will again be hosting regular Conversation & Conservation Bees throughout the growing season in Whispering Woods and the Centennial Natureground, caring for our native and reclaimed rough fescue prairie spaces right here in our shared community.

  • Bring your families; Bring your friends!
  • Make an outing of the occasion and enjoy the full opportunities provided by the area’s recreation, gardening, and gathering spaces.
  • Play. Socialize. Learn. Help. No experience required!
  • Strengthen and Sustain your community through conversation, collaboration, and celebration.

Please join us, whether for a few minutes or a few hours, during any or all of the following 12 events:

WHERE:
Meet at the Prairie Amphitheatre in Whispering Woods, just off Brenner Drive NW, or in the adjacent Centennial Natureground on the west side of Dr. Coffin School, at 5615 Barrett Drive NW. Dress for the weather, and for gardening! Although there will be some gloves and hand tools available to share, it would be helpful if you brought your own. We will be working in both Whispering Woods and the Centennial Natureground. Arrive and assist as you’re willing and able, and please BYO H2O.

To be notified about the schedule, to learn more about native plants, weeds, and grassland conservation, and to keep up with impromptu gatherings, please sign up for our listserv, as below – it’s only a few emails during the growing season, keeping your inbox relatively quiet. We welcome you to the growing circle of Neighbours as Stewards of our local spaces.
