Have you recently become aware of a proposed new development on your street or in your neighbourhood? Do you have questions about this proposal?
The City of Calgary’s ‘Blanket Rezoning Bylaw’, officially known as Land Use Bylaw 1P2007, has greatly changed what is allowed to be built, including 4-plexes (plus suites), or even more, depending on the property size.
The Brentwood Community Association’s Development & Transportation Committee (DTC) has created this website with some guides to help inform and support you.
Many Brentwood community citizens have told us that they are concerned or worried about the changes. The first step is to understand what is being proposed on a specific parcel of land (usually through a Development Permit), and to learn more prior to voicing your opinions to the City.
To help you with this effort, the DTC has made these resources available:
-
A letter template for communication with the City
-
Development Permit (DP) Review Checklist
-
A checklist of items subjects to consider regarding the Development Permit
-
Each listed items subject includes detailed concepts to consider.
-
Examples of considerations include:
-
Site Layout with the building proposed
-
Community character & context
-
Building height
-
Parking
-
…and many other important considerations

“This guide provides an overview on how citizens can respond to development applications in their community, whether they be land use applications or development permits.
Navigating the planning process can be complicated and the objective of this guide is to provide you with a better understanding of when and why The City asks for feedback and how you can effectively share your thoughts with the right people at the right point in the planning process.”
