Brentwood Cares! is sharing an event on mental health basics that will prepare you to understand the foundation of mental health and mental illness. Participants will also learn how to help themselves and others through advice shared by Tara Adams, who is a Workplace Mental Health Specialist.

Session Description:

How do you know if the choices you make are helping? Join filmmaker, author and playwright Cheryl Foggo for an online screening of her film John Ware Reclaimed. Cheryl will introduce the film with a brief exploration of how the commitment of a small group of women on the University of Calgary campus played a role in getting the story to the screen. The streaming will be followed by a Question and Answer Period.

About the Speaker:

Cheryl Foggo is a multiple award-winning playwright, author and filmmaker, whose work over the last 30 years has focused on the lives of Western Canadians of African descent. In 2020 her NFB feature documentary John Ware Reclaimed premiered at the Calgary International Film Festival, where it received the Alberta Feature Audience Choice Award. Additionally, in 2020, the 30th anniversary edition of her book Pourin’ Down Rain: A Black Woman Claims Her Place in the Canadian West was released by Brush Education Press and launched as an audiobook read by acclaimed actor Karen Robinson through ECW Press.

Cookies & Cards for Carroll Place

This Christmas will be different, so to spread a little joy and happiness, Brentwood Cares! is trying to match seniors with community members to get a card and some Christmas baking.

We are hoping that each senior gets cards from multiple community members.

Drop off instructions:

  • Please wear a mask and practice physical distancing. (mask + 2.0 m)
  • If dropping Monday to Friday 9 – 5pm:
    • Please call ahead to 403-282-6565. It’s an automated system so you need to press #4 for Admin/HO.
    • If you let Carroll place know you are dropping items off, they will make sure that there is someone available to open the door.
  • Alternate Weekends/ Or If you don’t connect:
    • You can ring the apt with “0” + apt #
  • Let the tenant know you are dropping a card & cookies, and ask for access.
  • Low white table to the right of the door can be used to leave the package.
  • Please don’t go to the apt, OK if the tenant comes down.
  • Please make sure to keep 2.0 m.

Get into the holiday spirit safely with your cohort (max 4 people); we’re wrapping Christmas gifts for seniors in Forward Housing’s apartments (including Carroll Place) – mug + hot chocolate + chocolate*.  In the Carroll Place lounge (1540 Northmount Drive NW); there is space for 3 cohort based wrapping stations.
