Exploring Redevelopment in Brentwood
Location: Blakiston Park, Calgary, AB
Date and Time: Saturday May 2nd, 2026 10 AM – 12PM
Overview
How should an established community like Brentwood change or redevelop successfully?
Join members of the Brentwood Community Association’s DTC (Development and Transportation Committee) and our special guest, Councillor DJ Kelly and members of his team. You’ll have a chance to hear about some proposed redevelopments in the community, plus ask questions.
We’ll start at Blakiston Park, directly west of the Brentwood Co-op parking lot. We’ll walk around some of the TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) site between the Co-Op and Brentwood Mall. From there, we’ll walk to Brentwood Blvd, then over to Charleswood Drive, viewing some proposed developments along the way. We will end at the park at Charleswood Drive and 24th Street (beside the baseball diamond).
The total walking distance will be just over 1 kilometer (plus you will have to return to your starting point). We will use amplification, and will have frequent stops along the way.
WALK NOTES: Busy sidewalks, fast paced / covering lots of ground, will use speakers / voice amplification
MEETING SPOT: Blakiston Park west side, near the intersection of Blakiston Drive and Brentwood Road (west of the Brentwood Co-Op parking lot)
YOUR WALK LEADERS: Melanie Swailes is a long-time Brentwood resident, as well as the Chair of the Brentwood Community Association Development and Transportation Committee (DTC). Some DTC members will join the walk; all are passionate about Brentwood and about development matters. They look forward to sharing their insights into some of the changes and challenges of redevelopment in Brentwood.
We will be joined by Councillor DJ Kelly, the Ward 4 Councillor since 2025.
